Hmm. I think my estimation was too optimistic again. I know how I
should fix the problem, but that requires substantial changes in the
code. So I keep that pending for a while.
BTW, I noticed that your previous change made it nearly meaningless to
handle a dumb terminal in get_cmdline. The reason why I rewrote
get_cmdline was that it should be functional even with dumb
terminals. So...
Is it necessary to stick to the current implementation of get_cmdline?
I guess you disabled the command-line editing in the case of a dumb
terminal, because Emacs has its own editing feature and it is available
before sending inputs to GRUB. Generally speaking, is this a good
assumption for dumb terminals?
