MY CONFIGURATION:
COMPUTER: COMPAQ DL380
OS: Linux
kernel-2.4.9-1
HDD: Compaq Smart Array 5300 (cciss.o dev name: /dev/cciss/c0d0)
1 Logical drive.
        (HD0,0) ext2 (HD0,1)-swap
RAM:640 MB

CPU: Pentium III 866/133 256kb cashe.

When I tried to install grub under linux(linux shell version of grub).I
could not do it.

Grub detected my disk. But during installing I got error.

install (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0) (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 p
(hd0,0)/etc/grub.conf

ERROR 22: NO SUCH PARTITION

(when I do the same booting from diskette,it works properly)

grub --version (GNU GRUB 0.5.97)
(but really it 0.5.98)

PS. There is another problem not bug:

Is there mechanizm of proper conversion of device name into grub names in
system with some different controllers and disks.
(for ex. /dev/ida/c0d0 ->  (hd0)).
We require it for installation.

Thanks!

Cheers,YP
