Please help me:
I´ve got a hard disk 40 Gbyte, Windows Me installed and I´ve partitioned for
Linux which now ist starting only by floppy.
checking the harddisk by fdisk /dev/hda in SuSE.linux I get folowing
information:
/dev/hda1 * FAT32 Id c LBA
/dev/hda2 FAT32 Extd Id f LBA
/dev/hda5 FAT32 Id b
/dev/hda6 FAT32 Id b
/dev/hda7 FAT16 Id 6
/dev/hda8 Linux Id 83
/dev/hda9 Linux swap Id 82
/dev/hda10 Linux Id 83
Trying to use GRUB 0.5.96.1-i386-pc I`ve started from floppy grub> rootnoverify
(hd0,0) -- grub>makeactive --- grub>chainloader +1 ---grub>boot and hurrah
the windows Me configuration was started.
But trying to find boot configuration for Linux I´m driving to despair.
I used the `find` command grub>find /vmlinuz and got the answer hd0,7.
trying to load grub>kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/hda? I used any number from 1 to
10 but got always answer "cannot mount the partition".
What am I doing wrong? Which way can I understand the explanations as a simple
medical doctor.
Please understand my plaeding for help.
I`m looking forward getting help from your organisation.
Thanks
Dr. Dieter Stübinger
