As Branden says, a bisect to pinpoint the problematic commit is the next
logical step.  I hesitate to do that myself because building groff is
painfully slow on my ancient processor.  But if you have some basic
familiarity with git and don't mind building groff multiple times, even if
you've never done a bisect before, the git-bisect man page walks you through
the process pretty clearly.
