I concur with Ingo.

Things breaking like this is the only name space protection feature that roff
languages have.

I welcome inquiries from DocBook XSL developers regarding how to generate
man(7) output that will achieve the effect they want.

Monkeying around under the hood of the package's public interface is not the
way to achieve such aims.
