Just to be sure I looked into this some more, and it turns out that
this was an incompatibility between groff 1.09 and GCC 2.7.0 that I
discovered in September 1995. I should have removed -fno-for-scope
when groff 1.10 and GCC 2.7.1 came out, but I forgot. Sorry about the
confusion. (As you can tell, I don't really keep up with C++ much. :-)
