hi there,

i'm new to icecat, but have a strange problem that i could use some
help with. i've just installed icecat on my debian and my ubuntu
boxes and have had two completely different experiences. installed
icecat on my debian machine using the following link:

this resulted in having to compile my own copy of the version 5.0
browser. everything with this is working excellently.

on my ubuntu machine i followed the instructions here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IceCat

to very quickly download and install a binary of version 7.0.1 of
icecat. the installation worked fine, but the operation of the
browser is highly questionable. the browser hangs repeatedly when
(i'm assuming) it attempts to embed any media content in a browser
window. the plugins applet claims that all the usual plugins are
available (flash, windows media player, quick time etc) but none of
these appear to work and yet a parallel firefox installation with
same plugins seems to work beautifully.

i was tempted to start playing around with manually installing some
plugins to get the browser to work effectively, but i am not
exactly clear where the correct place to put these might be.
