I've started doing some "third-party" SeaMonkey builds inspired by
GNUzilla's
work on Iceweasel.
Two things:
1. I've rebranded them as "LessZilla" and used some GNU images in
creating/assembling artwork for them. Specifically, I'm using
modifications of
Joseph Reiss's gnu head, Brian Bush's slick gnu logo, and the
gnu/GNUzilla logo
in the about.png for Iceweasel. I make it clear that my LessZilla isn't the
real LessZilla which hopefully GNUzilla will provide, and I link to
GNUzilla.
1a. Is this use okay?
1b. If so, who is the creator of the logo.png/about.png in
Iceweasel: I'd like
to give credit. (I really like this image, and would like to use a
mod of it in
some throbbers for my themes as well.)
2. Some of the scripts and imagework may be of interest to others.
I rebrand
with extremely simple shell scripts, but they work and may at least provide
pointers to some of the SM-specific files/images to be changed.
The image work also may be of interest. In both cases, feel free to
use any of
it.
The builds themselves, and the scripts/patches and the logo images, are
available on my site: http://www.incognu.com/builds.html
The problem from the debian pov is that we had to come up with
something now. Endless discussions won't help.
Yes, I use Debian and understand that Etch is relatively close to
shipping now,
so time is an issue. It was only a day ago that I heard there were serious
plans to rebrand SeaMonkey for Etch. As a Debian (sarge) and SeaMonkey user,
I'm pleased to see this. Fully agree with Dorland and Debian with regard to
the issues with Mozilla.
However, I want to clear something up, as I believe there's been a
misunderstanding here. My original post _wasn't_ to suggest LessZilla should
be the name Debian, or GNUzilla, or anyone else should use, nor generate _any_
discussion/debate whatsoever relating to how Debian or anyone else should go
about this. My intent was _merely_ to query whether GNUzilla had any issues
with _my_ calling _my_ optimised builds "LessZilla", and/or with my using
modifications of the GNUzilla logo. And, of course, to point out the images
I've come up with in case anyone wants to mod/use them.
I really don't care what the app is named, as long as it's Free, and as
long as
I am free to modify, compile, and give away builds.
About the Xzilla thing ... we have been given a pointer by mozilla
that it would be a bad idea to use anything with zilla suffix, as it
would probably cause troubles with the owner of "godzilla"
trademark ... so better safe than sorry imo.

Thanks for your input on this. As someone who just compiles a few optimised
builds every now and then, changing what I call my builds is fairly
trivial. The next ones will have a different name.
