General question: I have never been able to build and use profile builds. Any
hints? Also, is there a way to get the runtime to spew out all the message
passing? I mean, I want to actually watch the event and display loop in action
for NSMenuView. Is this feasible?

I guess I should document this. Here's some --GNU-Debug= arguments you can use:

NSEvent - print out all X events except mouse movements, plus some other things
NSMotionEvent - print out mouse movements
NSKeyEvent - info about key events
XGTrace - Information about window handling (placewindow, flushwindow, etc).

There are some other ones. grep for NSDebugLLog in the source files.
