That may be true, but mktunes uses GNUpod/SysInfo.pm and that's where the
problem was fixed.

That's a known problem on ubuntu. Comes up once in
a while. Search google for "gnupod ubuntu hangs".

It has been fixed in this commit on 2009-04-07:

http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/gnupod/src/ext/SysInfo.pm?root=gnupod&r1=1.5&r2=1.6

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnupod.git/commit/?id=d9b0e13c2f930e06228331b68d9458d99b703493

Please, please, please, report this bug to the ubuntu maintainers (the
problem only manifests itself on ubuntu) and bug them to either update
the ubuntu package to 0.99.8 or to bug the debian maintainers to do so.

AFAIK the ubuntu package is the same as the debian package, so updating
there would automagically fix the ubuntu package too.

Just apply this one line patch to SysInfo.pm :

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnupod.git/patch/?id=d9b0e13c2f930e06228331b68d9458d99b703493

No worries... Just make sure you report the bug so the maintainers update
their packages. I sent the 0.99.8 announcment to them but they probably
don't see the need to update as there are no bugs in their bugtracker that
would get fixed by packaging a new version.
