Thanks for mentioning that.
For Windows, the Emacs developers already do something different,
which I don't follow, but which they say works for them.
I don't know about Darwin but I hope the FreeBSD patch
I just installed suffices for that sort of platform.
(I'm trying not to get into the debugger business --
I just wanted a simple port of glibc's backtrace....)
