If you are interested in a reliable answer soon, you can write tests for
these tools that check the command line options and behaviours that you
are interested in. Commit them to gnulib, and we'll do the portability
testing for you.

For reference, find attached the outline of a testsuite that can be downloaded
from [1]. You can see that professional test suite authors use a two-step
process:
  1. write down the properties and behaviours that you want to test,
  2. write a test (a shell script in our case) for each.
