[bug-gnulib] byteswap (bswap_16, bswap_32, bswap_64) origin

GNU Libc has bswap_16, bswap_32 and bswap_64 macros in
/usr/include/byteswap.h (which includes bits/byteswap.h).
Does anyone know what the origin of these files and macros
are? They don't require _GNU_SOURCE and don't seem to be in
POSIX or any other well-known standard. Would it be possible
to copy these to a new module in Gnulib?
