Hi Dale,

I use Windows, so it may not be directly comparable, but I had some success creating a gnubgrc file (attached).

I found that gnubg opened with the new settings from gnubgrc, and then gnubgautorc was updated with them.

Make sure that gnubgrc is in the same folder as gnubgautorc.

Make sure that gnubgrc is named exactly that, not gnubgrc.txt etc.

I hope this helps.

Subject: Set gnubg window size and position when started

Hi........

I want to set size and position of gnubg when started. It starts on right side of screen and is too tall.

I'm running:

System:    Kernel: 5.4.0-96-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 5.0.7

wm: muffin dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 20.2 Uma base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal

Graphics:  Device-1: Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics

           vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:0412

           Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.13 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev,vesa

           resolution: 1366x768~60Hz

I tried editing gnubgautorc........

set geometry main width 678

set geometry main height 975

set geometry main xpos 10

set geometry main ypos 32

......with new values, but they just get changed back to what is shown above.

I noted this warning at top of gnubgautorc:

#

# GNU Backgammon command file

#   generated by GNU Backgammon 1.06.002 Jan 25 2020

#

# WARNING: The file 'gnubgautorc' is automatically generated the first time

# settings are changed and will be overwritten with every subsequent change.

# If you want to add startup commands manually, you should use 'gnubgrc'

# instead.

I tried making gnubgrc file with changed settings in the .gnubg folder - no luck.

Can you help a brutha out?

Thanks,

Dale Chase
