I would strongly believe it allows since I can indeed ssh out to other far-away computers. 

I have even tried to create a new key-pair, but still no success. I can still only do pserver:anonymous.

Update:

Aha! I found it! I have to set en environment variable:

$ export CVS_RSH=ssh

... then it works.
