Yes! Good point actually. I did indeed assume that someone would build it for use with GNU Backgammon and that assumption might not be right.
I can actually admit that I have been building long one-sided databases myself (not using makebearoff tool) to get good heuristic moves and probability estimates, so your argument is indeed valid. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'm not saying that anyone should put in the time to fix this bug. But
the last time I tried to generate a database wasn't for use with GNUBG.
It was for independent mathematical investigations. So the fact that such
a database won't create a better player is not, IMO, a good argument for
saying that such a database should not be built.
