Thanks for this major release in terms of speed - twice faster (read further down), GUI and new features.

But I note some problems:

Major bugs:

  1. roll out feature is running indefinitely, sucking all the cpu
  2. same remark when launching analysis
  3. with reference to items 1 and 2 above, stop button doesn't work  - windows pops up for confirmation, but no action follows up, need to quit X11
  4. after setting up a position and using hint, edit the position, change the score (only), click edit again to validate the change, press hint, same figures as in the previous hint, no automatic re-computation

Minor improvements:

  1. no French localization as a choice or automatically loaded at start-up
  2. XGammon ID not recognized
  3. the font used in the hint window could be nicer (I recall that was the case in the previous compilation)
  4. resizing vertically the analysis/evaluation panel located below the game moves panel would be handy in docks panel mode

With reference to calibration results when I was using gnubg compiled for/on OSX Leopard, I noticed these changes with regard to evaluation speed:

Of course same computer, same RAM : MacBook Pro 15" Intel Core i7 2.66 GHz (April 2010 model)  Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and 10.6.6

OS 10.6.6

Any clue about why the maximum result is got for 48 threads (btw 48 is the maximum figure you could type in the eval threads box) ?

Howdy All,

I have created my first attempt at a DMG Installer for 64bit GNUBG on
Snow Leopard. It includes Sound (external player included).

This is currently in Beta. Something unusual is wrong with language
processing that I will investigate. PLEASE see the included
README1ST.rtf file on the DMG for important information about Sound,
X11, Installation etc.

This has been modified to be relocatable so you should be able to
install it pretty much anywhere (Most people drag them to Applications).
Although it was built with MacPorts it relies on the libraries inside
the Application bundle, not the traditional ones in /opt directory. It
shouldn't interfere with existing MacPort installs.

The first release is available here for the time being:

There are likely issues and problems with it, so feel free to contact me
on the list or at my email address.

Michael Petch
