The databases are downloadable from www.gnubg.org. However, if you want to make 
your own, there are instructions here.

I don't think they can be converted to ascii, because of the way the 
information is encoded to save space. It's some years since I used them, 
though, so my memory might be faulty.

        i can't, or better said,i don't know how to produce a bearoff database 
using makebearoff.exe! 
        when i run it i just see a command prompt along with some kind of a 
help screen describing the options but i just can't write anything in the 
"commoand promt". i use gnu version 0.15 . can someone help please? 
        and another question: is there a way to change the format of the 
database to ascii?
