Better informed, but none the wiser I guess. Try to replace the line
in configure.in which checks for glib with

PKG_CHECK_MODULES(GLIB, [glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0], have_glib="yes",
AC_MSG_ERROR([You need to have glib2 to compile GNU backgammon:
$GLIB_PKG_ERRORS]))

and rerun ./autogen.sh and ./configure
