It's a bit of a mission getting to the correct/latest download of
gnubg on the gnubg.org website (for a new user), how about if we add
a "Download gnubg" button which automically downloads the correct
latest version of gnubg? You can take a look at the getfirefox.com
website for an idea of what I mean. This will make more sense when
we've got a "version 1" release, it doesn't hurt to get a headstart
though.

Right! I've thinking of this myself! I took a course in usability last semester, and I realized that that's the thing! The 'blog' didn't work out as intended.

I'm not suggesting altering the existing download pages, just adding
a one-click short cut to the main page (or the side bar or
somewhere). On windows we can just pick the latest install archive,
on linux I guess we need to pick up the distro type, for Macs I guess
we'll have to just go to the mac download page (as there isn't a
single file install?).

What about changing the top like removing the "Welcome to the GNU Backgammon web site" and have a big download button instead?

BTW: I'm done with my thesis now. My thesis is called "GNU Backgammon finds genes in DNA". :-) I used the GNU Backgammon neural net, (with some modifications), trained it on a set of genes, *tada* a neural net that can both find genes and play backgammon. Not bad!

PS: I hope I can do some GNU Backgammon development again.
