I really can't believe it's a problem to use screenshots or other
graphics from GNU Backgammon. What about the GIMP then? Would it be a
GPL violation to publish graphics generated with the GIMP? In the same
way, is a GPL violation to publish proprietary software compiled with GCC?

IANAL and this is just my viewpoint.

(But if it is a published book, credit should be given in the foreword
or something?)
