The problem seems to stem from an old copy of GDK that was poorly
uninstalled. Not sure what I can do about it though. In any case, I used a
second computer and was able to build the executable from the August 2
source, but get the following error:

(gnubg.exe:1612): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_drawable_get_depth: assertion
`GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed

(gnubg.exe:1612): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_pixmap_set: assertion
`gdk_colormap_get_visual (gtk_widget_get_colormap (GTK_WIDGET
(pixmap)))->depth == gdk_drawable_get_depth (GDK_DRAWABLE (val))' failed

BTW, for reference, the executable is about 10MB in size.
