Hello folks,

As I'm sure you're aware, the gnubg packages currently in Debian are a bit
out of date and need some attention. Corrin Lakeland has been busy with
other things and hasn't had a chance to work on them for a while, so I've
adopted the packages. I've just uploaded a general cleanup release that
should get them back into Debian testing, and am starting to look at
packaging the current release.

I see that there is a Debian package available directly from the gnubg web
site, newer than the package in Debian, but it's not been broken up to
separate the large data packages from the smaller binary package. My plan
is to work from that package and from Corrin's original packaging and get
updated packages into Debian hopefully within a month or so. I'm a big
believer in getting Debian packages into Debian proper rather than having
people download them from other web sites, since then release management,
dependency management, and similar packaging problems can take advantage
of all of the Debian infrastructure. (Particularly since the package is
already in Debian, albeit an older version, with quite a few Debian
users.)

Please let me know if any of the above is at all a problem, as I don't
want to step on anyone's toes or create problems for anyone. I'm new to
the gnubg mailing list (but have now joined it), although I've played the
game on and off for some time now and am very interested in seeing a
current version in Debian.

As part of packaging the current release, I'll be double-checking any
divergences in the Debian package from the current release and will be
sure to let you know if any modifications are needed. (It seems
unlikely.)

Thank you very much for all your work maintaining gnubg!
