Ok, I'll try to add a few styles to the .gtkrc file for the different 
types of errors.  I guess that means changing the colours will be 
difficult for windows users, but it makes things easy for me - if I can 
get it to work...  Looks like the styles can be set per widget, can I 
retrieve arbitrary styles from the .gtkrc file?

I guess the only command that will be needed is to turn the styling 
on/off for the game list.
