I know. The problem is, that Chris Ternel does not no anything about
GPL. And there is still the question if the developer team needs the
money. The server "www.gnubg.org" is for free and also is the cvs
server.

Anyhow, I thought it to be a good idea to give away the production
and distribution of a cd/dvd to someone, who already has the
logistic equipment and knowlegde. I don't know if someone here
really likes the idea of producing a cd/dvd at home, printing the cd
covers/label, organizing the shipping and administrating a bank
account included.

That's what I also expect.

Nice idea!

I've talked with a few people about Gnu Backgammon on Nordic Open.
The biggest problem I still see is the usability. For people like
Joern, Oystein, Jim, etc or advanced/power users like you and me
using gnubg is no problem.

But for any common windows users, who compare gnubg with snowie or
jellyfish, it is still quite hard to understand why i.e. you have to
play a new session/match when you just want to do a position
rollout.

Another issue is the manual. I have to admit that I was either short
of time in the past or didn't like writing documentation in my job
and also in my spare time. But to make GNU Backgammon more usable we
need a manual that covers not only the technical stuff but also
simple things like open a match or save and analyse a session.

At Nordic I talked with Oystein about it. Perhaps we should make a
list of all features that are already involved but still not
finished yet and the developers (and of course all other helpers
like i.e. me) concentrate on that. In a few weeks there will be a
product (version 1.0 ?!) that may be worth to be put on a dvd/cd for
distributing.

Here is what I would like to be finished

1. Translation (Though it's nearly finished I will check it (de)
   again and change some items)
2. Manual (Oystein and me?!)
3. A few common (python) scripts for automizing analysis and
rollouts (Who would like to do this ?)

Right now I don't know what else has to be done, I have to read the
postings of this list from the last 5 months again.

Ciao
