I think there shouldn't be any text in icons. Thus, out of the three above there is no choice left.Somebody posted a link of a style guide some time ago. A short search of my own brought the following:http://artist.kde.org/guidelines.html http://artist.kde.org/applications.htmlhttp://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/ AquaHIGuidelines/AHIGIcons/index.html http://developer.apple.com/documentation/mac/HIGuidelines/ HIGuidelines-176.html http://developer.apple.com/documentation/mac/HIGuidelines/ HIGuidelines-159.html
My concern about using the Gnu's head on its own is that there's no element of backgammon. I've tried to squeeze a bit of the green point in there on the top right to at least hint at backgammon. But as Rod has said the URL is usually next to the favicon so maybe it's obvious enough.
I'm only familiar with favicons appearing in browser's address bars and bookmarks, do they end up elsewhere as well? Does each GUI build need its own specific type of icon for the application itself?
