OK, if you all prefer "chequer" then it'll leave it as that in the
documentation. Just to make it clear: "checker" is perfectly acceptable
British English and isn't an Americanisation of the language. Paul Lamford,
the leading British backgammon author, always spells it "checker". And even
more convincingly, BIBA (British Isles Backgammon Association) also spells
it "checker" in their newsletters.

There are many words in the UK with a choice of spellings not necessarily
linked to the US. For example, the choice of ending words -ise or -ize was
historically a divide between the dictionary makers in Oxford and those in
Cambridge, predating Webster and the changing of American spelling following
American independence.

BTW, I don't think this is particularly important, I'm just keen to have
consistent and professional looking documentation.
