I've started editing the gnubg.texi file. At this stage I'm not adding
anything new, just tightening up the English: removing unnecessary words,
avoiding overly technical jargon, correcting grammar. I'm not changing any
words which are node labels, and not touching any texinfo coding.

As I complete versions how do I upload it? Or who do I send it to?
You should have write access to to CVS repository. Do you know how to use cvs?

At first you should create an account at Savannah.
http://savannah.gnu.org/

When you've done that we will give you write access to the cvs.

I'm editing it with BBEdit, a text editor mainly designed for HTML (set to
UNIX for line returns), should I download something for checking that there
are no texinfo errors?
I don't know that text editor. If you can find a checking tool, or Textutils and Texinfo for Mac, I think you should download and use it.
