I'm not sure I understand you. Can you try with the 0722 build? 

I just change the eval settings to, say, 0-ply. Select the moves I want
to downgrade, and: voila!

One thing though: the hint window obtains it's data from the match
analysis if available. However, the annotation window does not obtains
data from any hints you've made.

So, you might bring up the hint window and downgrade some evals, but the
annotation window will remain unchanged.

This is because player 1 is on roll, but the (set position xxx) appears
in the player 0 column. With player 0 on roll you would have to issue a
"set board 090AERiP/wAAAA" to get the position right.

The "(set board xxx)" ought to show up in the player 1 column (in which
case it would show up correctly as j/8AAMB0N0AEBg), but it's
not trivial to fix.
