This one is not our fault -- there is a bug in GTK's colour selection
dialog that can make the opacity control visible even when you didn't ask
for it.  I've filed a bug report
(<http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74713>), and it seems to
be scheduled to be fixed for GTK+ 2.2.
