Hello,This is not exactly a response to the issue because I cannot figure out what the issue actually is. This email reads like there should be an antecedent email, but I cannot find it.
Anyway, output goes to stdout, period, full stop. What you provide as the final argument to the command is the name encoded into the output file that gets "printed" to stdout. Attached is the POSIX description for the final argument to uuencode.
Does that answer your question? Cheers - BruceOn 9/10/21 9:52 AM, Raphaël Bazaud via Bug reports for the GNU utilities wrote:
Hello, That is not exactly a bug report, only a minor remark, the manpage for uuencode states that /dev/stdout should be used as output file in order to display the output. However using « - » as output file is shorter and does just the same (for GNU/Linux anyway, maybe not for AIX or other members of the UNIX family). Best regards, -- R. Bazaud
