Arnold,In order to make the excellent gawk manual even better, I just repeat my earlier suggestion to change "index in array" and "array[index]" in the gawk manual to "subscript in array" and "array[subscript]" in order a) harmonise the wording and b) avoid that newbies use "index in array", etc. literally.
