Stepan thought I was implying that you don't understand what you write.  Not at 
all; I only meant that it gives the impression to readers unfamiliar with the 
background that the author (whoever that may be) was unsure.

Sorry if my denouncement came across too harshly.  Of course there are more 
important things to think about.
