(Solaris 2.7 - binutils-2.13.1) Broken Makefile (and configure?) for prebuild of ar |

The README file in the binutils subdirectory lists a
script to use for building ar.
I ran configure as usual, and the script.
The last step (building the ar executable) failed
with this message:
Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
mkstemps ../libiberty/make-temp-file.o
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to ar
even though configure said:
checking for mkstemps... no
I had to manually include ../libiberty/mkstemps.o
in order for the build of ar to complete.
I hope and assume that someone more familiar with the configure
process and script is able to spot where the error in configure is
much faster than I am able to, so that this error may be corrected.
TIA
Svend OC
