When importing data only 1000 lines are used for preview.

It automatically will calculate the width of the variables based on -
only the first 1000 lines???

What this can do is lead to truncation of your variable. My ID contains 12
digits for example

That is true.

Can you offer a feature / tickbox where it can scan through all your data
to determine the maximum length?

I guess this could be done. Obviously the user must then accept the extra
delay whilst it scans the (potentially
very large) dataset.
