Details:

In the MINGW32 build for MSWindows it is not possible to use a UNC path or
browse the network as it is usual on MSWindows.

I guess this is a decision from the MINGW builders which is hard to change. 

A workaround is to assign the network drives as local drives. However there is
1 report that this doesn't work either, but on my computers it works.
