This output is a bit misleading: you're running a version modified by Apple.

Thanks for the prompt response. Indeed, I wasn't sure who is responsible for the UTF-8-MAC encoder which is available only on macOS (and is the only one that seems to suffer from the issue) so just I followed the iconv's suggestion:

    $ iconv --help

    Usage: iconv [OPTION...] [-f ENCODING] [-t ENCODING] [INPUTFILE...]

    (...)

    Report bugs to <address@hidden>.

I followed your advice and reported the bug to Apple.
