bug#58946: 29.0.50; Dired fails to open with find-file "wrong-type-argument arrayp nil"

Hi!

I am unable to open any directory with dired at this point. As detailed
below, I am using Emacs 29 via snap. The stacktrace is attached below
and was produced with an empty .emacs: simply starting Emacs, C-x C-f
and pressing enter.
