While there might be some text-properties that should be stripped (e.g. the `mouse-face` when copying text from *Completions* to the minibuffer), I don't think there's any particular need to remove the text-properties, no. It probably gets removed as a side effect of something else (e.g. of going through `try-completion`) so it probably "just" needs more work to actively *preserve* the text-properties. Stefan
