24.4.XX.X is "strictly greater than 24.4". More specifically NN.MM.50.Y
is the development code for NN.MM+1 and NN.MM.9X.Y is the pretest (aka
"beta test" for NN.MM+1.
IOW, the trunk will be released as 24.5.
