Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

The trigger seems to be mouse movement.  It is rare but has occured
enough to be a worry.  The last case was when moving the mouse over the
entries in a "List all Buffers" buffer.

Symptom is death of emacs and all the children.  (I do most shell work
from emacs.)

Since this is a total restart of emacs, the history is not meaningful.
