Display bug

From: Harvey J. Stein
Subject: Display bug
Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 10:49:18 -0400

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

In GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (i386-redhat-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
 of Mon Jul 30 2001 on stripples.devel.redhat.com
configured using `configure --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info
--prefix=/usr --libexecdir=/usr/lib --sharedstatedir=/var --with-gcc --with-pop
--with-x-toolkit i386-redhat-linux-gnu'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

I started emacs, loaded /etc/sendmail.cf (appended below), and do C-s
smart C-s C-s C-s. When I do the 3rd C-s, the display of line 744
changes. My emacs window is 80x52.

The display of the line changes from:

                $#esmtp $@ [ $(dequote $2 $) ] $: $1 < @ [IPv6 : $2 ] > $3
no smarthost: send

to:

                $#esmtp $@ [ $(dequote $2 $) ] $: $1 < @ [IPv6 : $2 ] > $3
  no smarthost: send

(i.e. - the "no smarthost: send" shifts 2 spaces to the right.)

It also happens when I do:

   emacs -geometry 80x30 -q --no-site-file /etc/sendmail.cf

to start emacs, then do the above cited search.
