Is there a general rule, that package developpers should follow
here, under which circumstances a lisp function should not display
any echo area messages? Is this rule documented somewhere?
I am asking because it seems to me that the problem I have here with
auctex is, indeed, a more general problem that happens with other
packages, too. See my follow-up mail on bibtex-mode that gives me
essentially the same problem when enable-local-variables' value is
'maybe.
Thanks a lot,
Roland
