ESC ! long single line output deserves better that usual minibuffer treatment

ESC ! and ESC | are smart enough to crack open the *Shell command
output* buffer onto the screen for viewing of multi line output.
Single line output need only be shown in the minibuffer.  However, in
the case of a single long line of shell output, exceeding the edge of
the minibuffer, steps should be taken to at least inform the user
"there's more to the story", and even better would be to crack open
that *Shell command output* buffer onto the the screen.

Proof of Current Badness: do ESC ! echo 'oo [about 150 SPC here] mm'
You will only see the oo, not knowing the deadly m and m's are lurking
at the end.  No, not even a trailing $.
