Bug: spontaneous buffer loss

From: J. Milgram
Subject: Bug: spontaneous buffer loss

GNU Emacs 20.7.2 (i386-slackware-linux-gnu, X toolkit) of Mon Jun 19 2000 on zap
Straight from the Slackware 7.1 distribution
Made no mods to Emacs source

Bug is hard to reproduce!

While editing files, (especially mail drafts in mh-e, but I *think*
also in other contexts) I sometimes lose the whole buffer. It
spontaneously behaves as though the whole buffer were cleared and then
saved, so there's no autosave file with my work. Everything's lost.

This happens on random occasions upon executing C-xxx commands, like
C-x C-s, but also others.

When I try undo, I get a message in the buffer saying "no more undo
information"

Have been running emacs for years and never saw this before. I also
get it on another machine at work that is running Slackware 7.0, I can
get the emacs version info for you if you like.

When this happens, I can't find any way to recover my work. C-x C-u
("undo") doesn't do anything. The backup file ("#foo.txt#") is just
plain gone. Very annoying.

Please let me know if there are any further tests/info I can get to
you.
