Emacs 19 is known not to build on glibc2-based systems. Debian
maintain patches for it for some reason, but I don't know a good
reason to use it (and I don't want to be lectured on the topic). The
current version is 20.7, which has fairly minor changes from the
version in RedHat 6.2.
