Help compiling gnuchess under cygwin

Hello,

I am attempting to compile gnuchess under cygwin, partly as a training experience, partly to see just how bad I am at handling UNIX software.

I receive the following message:

make: all-recursive error 1"

as well as an error in attacks.o.

I have been able to build programs before using the ./configure, make, make install routine, but cant for the life of me figure out what error 1 or error 2 are supposed to be, or why I'm getting them.

Help with this will be most appreciated,
