Extract text... Is there a way to keep paragraphs?

Considering what it has to do, I think the GSview "Extract text"
command works pretty good. But for the PDF I'm converting, it should
be possible to preserve paragraph formats better than it does.

In the PDF, there is extra spacing before the first line in a
paragraph. I would like that extra space to translate as a blank line
in the text output. So the result should look more or less like the
paragraphs in this posting, instead of paragraphs all squashed
together.

Is there a ghostscript command to do this? 

Or do I need to modify the source and recompile? In which source files
are the "Extract text" functions?
