Details:

Variable substitution in configure script seems to be not portable:

DEBVERSION=${PACKAGE_VERSION/_/-}

Error message when running configure:
./configure: ${PACKAGE_VERSION/...}: Bad substitution

When I comment out this line in the configure script, the configure script
continues to the end.
