[bug-gettext] General question about GNU documentation collections

Hi,

I am writing to ask a very general question about the gnu documentation collections, in particular, programming language documentation collections such as GNU c, awk, elisp, ect. I was in contact with some GNU administrators, and they directed me to your list.

I am trying to extract pairs of function representations/declarations with textual descriptions of these functions for various GNU programming languages/utilities.

For example from the GNU c documentation:

text annotation: Adjust a tunable parameter
function rep:      int mallopt (int param, int value)

The difficulty is that each documentation uses different conventions in terms of formatting this information. Even within the c manual, the representation of this information differs from section to section.

I'm wondering.. if there some quick and easy way to extract this information? Has anyone done this before, perhaps for some other application?

Any help or pointers would be most appreciated. I would like to get as many documentation collections as possible.
